Order Fulfillment Process

Orders in DuckTape WMS follow a structured fulfillment workflow:

1

Pending

New orders start in the pending status, awaiting processing.

2

Picking

Items are gathered from warehouse locations.

3

Packing

Items are packaged and prepared for shipment.

4

Shipping

Orders are labeled and handed off to carriers.

5

Delivered

Orders have reached their destination.

Each step has its own dedicated tab in the Orders interface, making it easy to see where every order stands - like watching ducks progress across a pond!

Pick, Pack, and Ship

Picking Orders

1

Go to Picking

Navigate to “Orders” → “Picking” tab.

2

Create Pick List

Select orders to pick or use filters to create batch picks.

3

Print Pick List

Generate a picking document with optimized routes.

4

Gather Items

Collect items from their warehouse locations.

5

Mark as Picked

Scan items or manually update picking status.

Wave picking (picking multiple orders at once by location) can save significant time! It’s like a duck collecting multiple pieces of bread in one dive.

Packing Orders

Once items are picked, it’s time to package them:

  1. Go to “Orders” → “Packing” tab
  2. Select an order to pack
  3. Verify all items are present
  4. Scan each item as you place it in the package
  5. Add packing materials as needed
  6. Enter package dimensions and weight
  7. Mark the order as packed

Always double-check that you’ve included all items before sealing packages! A duck would never leave one of her ducklings behind, and you shouldn’t leave any items behind either!

Shipping Orders

The final step in order fulfillment:

1

Go to Shipping

Navigate to “Orders” → “Shipping” tab.

2

Select Order

Choose a packed order ready for shipping.

3

Select Carrier

Choose your shipping carrier (FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc.).

4

Create Label

Generate and print shipping labels.

5

Mark as Shipped

Update the order status and enter tracking information.

6

Send Notification

Automatically notify the customer that their order is on its way.

Managing Order Issues

Order Modifications

Need to make changes to an existing order?

  1. Find the order in the list
  2. Click “Edit Order”
  3. Make necessary changes to items, quantities, addresses, etc.
  4. Save changes

You can only modify orders that haven’t been shipped yet! Once the duck has flown the pond, you can’t change its flight path.

Order Cancellations

To cancel an order:

  1. Find the order in the list
  2. Click the “Actions” dropdown
  3. Select “Cancel Order”
  4. Provide a reason for cancellation
  5. Click “Confirm Cancellation”

Cancelled orders will automatically return allocated inventory to stock.

Returns Processing

Handle customer returns efficiently:

1

Create Return

Go to “Orders” → “Returns” → “New Return”.

2

Select Original Order

Search for and select the original order.

3

Specify Return Items

Select which items are being returned and the quantities.

4

Indicate Reason

Document the reason for each returned item.

5

Process Return

Issue refunds if needed and decide whether to return items to inventory.

Set up a dedicated return inspection area in your warehouse - like a duck’s quarantine pond for checking returning ducklings!

Order Analytics

Make data-driven decisions with these order reports:

  • Order Volume: Track orders over time
  • Fulfillment Time: Measure how long it takes to process orders
  • Popular Items: See which products are ordered most frequently
  • Customer Insights: View ordering patterns by customer
  • Returns Analysis: Understand why items are being returned

Past performance is not always indicative of future results. Even ducks can change their migration patterns if conditions change!

Order Processing Tips

Remember, a smooth order process keeps your customers happy and coming back - just like ducks returning to their favorite pond year after year!
